Thumbs up cloudy water

We have enjoyed, all year long swimming in our enclosed swimming pool which I completed some five years ago and over those years have had little problems other than the odd one or two instances of algea forming, but with a small amount of additional attention the situation would clear.
About four months ago algea formed and no matter how much stabilised chlorine I would add, the algea persisted. I then noticed that the acidity level was high and so added quite a lot of alkaline to bring the PH back to normal, this activety left me with an extremely cloudy pool, speaking with Maddie at ukpoolstore, it seems that the main problem was that of too much cynanoric acid in the pool water, I am still to test for this, but it may be of interest to other indoor pool users that it seems I should not have been using stabilised chlorine to such an extent because the stabiliser (cyanoric acid) is only there to reduce the effect of sunlight on the chlorine. This cynanoric acid remains in the pool water and my only course of action now, is to partially empty the pool to dilute the water

Ignorance is bliss, but it looks like I'll have to get a little more serious with these annoying rules, mind you, I would still recommend indoor swimming pools to anyone.

We may have added to this problem by way of our regime, there's only two of us and we always shower before entering the pool, therefore the sand filter needs very little backwashing and so the main dilution over the years has been the evaporative losses makeup which is just 23 litres per day on a 28,000 litre pool

Default Sand Change time?

Hi odbob,
I would also recommend if you have not done so already, changing your filter sand. We recommend to all our domestic clients a sand change every 3 years.
