Question Purple film covering everything

Hi
I had an algae problem early this summer which resulted in cloudy water and horrible slimy deposits. I used the algaecide "Kleen Pool" and everything returned to normal.
However recently I have used the "Blue Horizons" Sparkle tabs to clarify the water and have been left with a nasty purple film over te strainer basket and a dust like covering over the pool base.
I am supplied by borehole water with a PH of 6.8 and have had to use PH Plus to raise it to a level of 7.2. I also use your Chlorine mini tabs. Can you advise whats hapening? Is it a chemical reaction between the copper elements of "Kleen Pool" and the Aluminium Oxide of "Sparkle"

Thanks.

Hi Jon,
I thought it best to get the oracle and managing director of Blue Horizons to contribute to this reply, so please find below a copy from his reply email:

Glan,

You’re customer is very close to the facts. Essentially copper is PH sensitive and can come out of solution in acidic or alkaline conditions. When it comes out of solution then any coagulant or flocculent, in this case the sparkle tabs, will concentrate the copper sulphate/citrate in its locality (if you like this is proving the properties of the coagulant product). The good thing generally about copper is that in a pH range of 7.0-7.6 copper usually re-solubilises pretty quickly. It is usually alkaline conditions above 7.6 that create this problem more than acidic ones. Whilst the make up water suggests the pool should be tending towards acidic conditions (below7) we wonder if some over adjustment of pH plus OR some “shock” treatment may have pushed it high (note most shock treatment chemicals like Sod Hypo or cal. Hypo are very alkaline)

Good news for Jon is that none of these reactions are hazardous but would recommend pH is stabilized into the right zone, so copper starts behaving.

Hope this CLARIFIES (pardon the pun) the situation!!!

Default Purple film.......

Thanks for such a speedy response.
I think on reflection that it was probably caused by a large dosing of PH Plus to raise the PH from 6.8 to 7.2.
I will try to regulate a more even dosing pattern from now on.
