Thanks Glan, for this new forum section, as you can imagine, I have been itching to talk with others on the question of running costs, not just to the environment but also that age old consideration, money
Mine is of "new age" enclosed swimming pools- super insulated along with other solar assisted features and energy saving equipment.
The running costs averaged over 4 years for this 30 feet long, all year long maintained temperatures of 30 deg C pool water, 32 deg C air temperature, are :-
21,000 KW gas @ 2.3 pence/ KW £483 / year
1.300 KW electric @ 8 pence / KW £104 / year
9,000 water (evaporative losses plus just two backwash £13.50 / year
Now some five years since I completed this pool, there are other features that I could have built in, whereby the running costs could have been even less, maybe there are others who have achieved better performances ? it would be good to share these experiences so that design es can be optimised
Whatever the running costs (within reason

) We have so enjoyed owning our own pool (brilliant for my wife's arthritus ) that it is certainly our intention to continue this enjoyment right into our dotage- happy or what
Keep up the good work, regards odbob
