As this is my first post please excuse me for asking basic questions.

This will be my second season with an outdoor p[ool (28ft x 14). Last season I had terrible problems with the water going cloudy. I used Chlorine tabs, various floc products (ended using the flock jelly in the pump basket) and PH increaser/decreaser when required. I would backwast a couple times a week for about 5 minutes a time. Every few weeks I would have to use flock power, leave the pool still for 24hrs then hover to waste. This would keep the pool clear for a few weeks.

But I have just removed my winter cover, and althought the pool floor is very dirty, the water is clear! Before closing the pool I added a winterising product (shock chlorine and algecide I think).

So, to get to my question, should I use algecide regularily? My big concern is that we are getting a hose pipe ban at the end of this month, so I will not be able to hover to wast then refill. I know there are many reasons for cloudy water, but it did surprise me to find my water clear after being left for the winter.

I shall be getting a Polaris 145 off you shortly to help me with the hovering.

Thanks in advance

Gary

Hi,

My theory with maintaining water chemistry and clarity has always been to keep things as simple as possible.

I would suggest a 6 month algaecide. This way you can assume that you will have at least some kind of back-up algae protection in your pool without having to do much about it during the season.

Keep the free chlorine level up and stable, keep your pH at around 7.4 and where possible top up with fresh water on a regular basis.
