Hi
I would like to build a pool 40' x 20' but because of the slope of the land part of it will be above ground - part below.
Could somebody tell me whether I would require a stronger concrete structure or whether blockwork is sufficient. If reenforced concrete is needed any advice as to thickness etc.
Thanks
Zan

Hi,

Will you be backfilling the wall that will be above ground?

Hi James
I intend to have a 2 meter walkway around the whole of the pool, so I guess I will be for 2 meters at least.
However I also have thought about not backfilling the end above ground to provide an 'infinity pool' type of effect.
I welcome your advice.

Hi,

I would certainly look to reinforce any wall that is not being backfilled.

Yes I thought the same, is this a job for a surveyor/architect or for a 20x40ft pool would say 6 inch of reinforced conrete do the trick for something this size. I suppose a different way of saying it would be if it was an above ground pool would a bowl of 6" reinforced concrete be strong enough instead of below ground blockwork. Looking at some above ground pool, they don't look to have very strong sidewalls.
