Hi had a new gas heater fitted about 18 months back which is rarley used.

I've been cleaning our pool up for the season and switched on the heater for the first time the other day, all seemed well but it appears to leak while heating.

Initially I thought that this would be condensation, but after leaving the heater on for several hours steam was evedent from the flue. I suspect that there might have been a small amount of damage to the heat exchanger over the winter period but wonder if everyone else would come to the same conclusion

Thanks in advance

Hi,

A common problem when re-commissioning a boiler after the winter period is frost damage, ie some water was left in the heat exchanger and this has consequently frozen.

There are three main components, the rear header, the front header and the tubes. In most cases, it is one of the headers that is damaged and leaks, infact some headers are manufactured with a weak spot so that if the heat exchanger does freeze, this weak spot cracks first to relieve pressure and stop the rest of the boiler suffering.

You should be able to take a few panels off of your boiler and identify which header is leaking. We are able to bet hold of most spare parts for boilers.
