When fitting external glass fibre roman steps to an existing concrete lined pool do the steps need to be supported other than at the join to the pool and around the top (where the existing ring beam is being extended with supporting pillar). Should the steps be self supporting or does each step need it's own supporting mechanism? The pool is 12m x 6m and the steps are 3.25m radius and 0.8m deep.

If your steps didn't come with supports I would make up some supports of your own and make sure that the steps are dead level.

Once sitting up on their own and level, they should then be backfilled with a nice wet concrete mix, making sure that this is agitated sufficiently to expell all air.

You will then have level, supported, solid steps. :)
