I've recently bought a house with an indoor swimming pool. The chap that sold me the house talked me through the processes for cleaning etc but it all went a bit over my head! not difficult thogh.
Does anyone know about courses that I could attend. I've got kids and I'm a bit worried about the chlorine aspect. All I really know about the pool is that it has a sand filter and is 8ft at the deep end.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
Where abouts are you based? If you are local to us we can send an engineer round to you for some tuition.

I am in Ely in Cambs, so perhaps too far away. Can you recommend someone local?

Well, I eventually got the pool to required temp, must be costing me a fortune in leccy!.
I have used Aquachek strips to test levels. It appears free chlorine is at 1ppm, which seems to be OK, but pH is around 8.0 and alkalinity about 180, which is a bit high.
What do I need to do to bring them to accepable levels.
Im no chemist and all the chemicals in the garage are filling me with dread!
Thanks
Need it sorted soon have promised the kids a swim on Christmas day!!! :D

Hi Rabbit
You should reduce the ph level, the ideal range is between 7.4 and 7.6 by the use of dry acid (ph Minus), this should naturally drop the total alkilinity, however if not enough their is a product called TA minus, but be aware this can also reduce the ph.
You will also need to continue to keep the chlorine levels between 1 and 3.
It is adviseable to shock treat the pool on a two weekly basis to ensure that any nasties are killed.
If you need further advise why not give us a ring (01622 792121) and we can talk you through it.
Happy Christmas, hope the children enjoy their swim, and that the electric bill isn't too bad!!!!!!!!!

Hi All,
Also new to a house with outdoor pool, I would also like to know if there are any courses to attend. I`ve not even looked at the drums in the garage but I told it was winterized and top up 2 weeks ago. It is 32' x 16' x 7'deep, heated by a brand new gas heater (Empty for winter).
What do all those valves do ? I can see lots of fun and games ahead.
Cheers
Stuart
