As we move towards the end of the season :( I would be grateful if you could give some advice on the "do's and dont's" of winterising a pool. Also what tasks should be undertaken during the winter months?

Second question : We bought our Calorex 600 heat pump from you earlier in the year and it has done a great job in keeping the pool at about 28 - 30 degrees. :) Is there a device that can link from the thermostat on the heat pump so that it starts the main filter pump at the same time and then switched off when the pool is upto temperature?

Thanks
Garry.

Garry,

I am fairly new to pools also, but what I do in winter is give the filter a good backwash and rinse, give it a final shot of chlorine (not sure if thats a good idea or not, but it seemed to stop the filter going totally green). Then I empty the pool down through the sump to just below the returns, add a bit of algecide and cover over.
Every few weeks I go out with the leaf blower to get all the debris off the top of the cover (lazy!) and occassionally take the cover off and get any heavier debris that may have got past the cover and onto the bottom of the pool out.

I too have a Calorex heater, but what you are asking seems a bit odd?

I have a normal timer on the circulating pump, with an IMO contactor to switch the pump and heater. So when the pump is on, the the heater is also supplied (and either on or off dependeant on the water temp).

If you have the heater attempting to switch the pump off once it has reached temp, water will stop flowing and the temp of the water in the heater will drop, turning the pump back on to fill the heater with warm water which will again shut down!

I leave the pump running for around 12 hours each day during summer, and let the heater come on and off as it requires.
