I have a 15x42" intex frame pool. The water has chlorine and algaecide in it to keep it clear, but I have noticed recently that the water has became a little cloudy. Is this because i need to shock treat the pool as it has been up about 5 weeks or lack of clarifier. I would be grateful of your reply. Thanks Very Much Ross Marks

Hi Ross :)

That cloudiness is the start of algae growing.

You do need to shock the pool once you have done that you then need to get your chlorine and pH levels correct - incidentally, add the chemicals to the pool one at a time, you should never add chemicals at the same time, because of resultant reactions that may occur - once your levels have been tested and adjusted add some more algicide as per the instructions, and, unless you are using a six monthly algicide you can add this on a weekly basis.

If you are not using the pool at present you can raise the chlorine levels and reduce the pH to about 7 this will help in the fight against algae.

Once the pool is up and running on a regular basis, you should shock it at least every two weeks and keep the chlorine levels between 1 and 3 and the pH between 7.4 and 7.6, just keep an eye on the Total Alkalinity as well.

Hope this helps.
