hi,my pool is for my kids aswell.a starter chemical pack, anda soalr cover was all i needed to start up. i have been runnung the pool filter 24/7.i have a 3wk heater which is needed,as its so cold otherwise.thats it.once you get the hang of the chems and testing its great.well worth it.angela

hi deb

angela is correct.

a chemical starter pack is needed to keep the pool water clear and algae free.
it comes with:

- stabalised chlorine granules to keep a stabalised level in the water.

- Ph adjusters such as ph+ and ph-. to keep your acid and alkali levels neutral.

- a test kit with tablets to test for both chlorine and ph

- an algaecide to add weekly to keep your pool algae free

dont worry it comes with instructions if you get lost.

a solar cover is a good extra to have. it helps keeping debris out of pools such as leaves etc.. it also helps transfer the heat of the sun into the pool.

a heater would be good if you dont like the cold water. a 12ft pool will run off a 3kw and a 15ft runs off a 6kw. 3kw heaters are £198 and 6kw are £298 http://www.ukpoolstore.co.uk/acatalog/swimming-pool-electric-heaters.html both starter kits and solar covers are on the above ground pools section.

hope this helps
