Super G+ Goes from Strength to Strength

The world of Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaners is as some of you may have found, a complete mine field.

But amidst all the various options, and arguments over Suction verses Boost pump cleaner, one seems to be able to tick almost all the box’s, and come up trumps. The Baracuda Super G+ is the total pool cleaning package. It is versatile enough to work in Concrete Swimming Pools, Tiled Swimming Pools and is especially adept at cleaning liner swimming pools. All that is needed is a pool circulation pump of 3/4 Horse power or above.

The Baracuda Super G+ even comes with its own in-line leaf trap, which will       reduce the need to empty the pump basket of leaves & debris. This in-line leaf trap is ideal in the spring time, when the risk of the pumps impellor being jammed up with leaf debris which has broken down during the winter months is greatest. As I am sure we are all aware, swimming pool pumps are not cheap, so anything that helps to protect them is surely a good thing.

The Baracuda Super G+ also comes with a complete set of sectional hoses (12 in all), and is ideal for pools up to 40 feet in length. The Super G+ also has the advantage over it’s rivals by only having one serviceable moving part, the long life diaphragm. This easily replaced rubber diaphragm creates the dynamic thrust to power the Super G+ all around your swimming pool in a fast and efficient way. The average pool can be cleaned in a few hours and as the Super G+ is water powered from your pools own circulation pump it is totally safe, and can be left in to work while you are swimming or even when the pools solar cover is on.

Weather Forcast for week Commencing 7th July

The week looks set to start and end on a showery note. For England and Wales heavy, slow-moving showers and thunderstorms will give some decent amounts of rainfall – across northern England, following the weekends rain there could be some localised flooding.

Southeast England will again have a brisk wind. Northern Ireland may have fewer showers, but it will be a rather cloudy day and Scotland will have more showers than we saw over the weekend.

Tuesday will bring little respite from the heavy slow moving showers, at least not across the eastern half of the UK. However western areas will have a quieter, drier day with a bit more brightness and sunshine.

By Wednesday morning however a new area of low pressure will arrive on the scene to bring more rain into Northern Ireland, Wales and western England. This will spread to all but northern Scotland during daylight, accompanied by brisk winds, especially in the south. The rain looks very heavy in southern areas.

As the rain clear on Thursday the pattern reverts back to sunny spells and showers, there will always be the risk that these will turn heavy and thundery given the energy in the July sunshine. The showery theme will then continue through Friday and the weekend when the heaviest showers are most likely over England and Wales.

As a result of the showers rainfall is expected to be around average but probably above in England and Wales.

With light winds and in the sunshine it will feel like July and temperatures should at least reach around average, but it will often feel cool in the rain.

Weather Forcast for week Commencing 30th June

Warmer and sunnier on Monday in many areas. Stronger southerly winds will introduce rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland later.

The band of rain will edge east on Tuesday. As the temperature and humidity rises in England there is the likelihood of torrential thundery downpours by evening and the threat of flooding.

The heavy rain will edge east overnight with further downpours in eastern England and especially eastern Scotland on Wednesday.

Fresher air will push across all areas from the west by the end of Wednesday and push the heavy rain into the North Sea.

The rest of the week and the weekend sees temperatures falling to nearer normal with a southwesterly airflow bringing sunshine and showers.

There is the possibility that heavy rain in the North Sea could brush eastern coastal areas by the end of the week, then there is a signal for higher pressure in the south for a while over the weekend

Solar Sun Rings – ‘Finaly Free Heat’!

The Solar Sun Ring is a passive solar swimming pool heating device made from two sheets of heavyweight U.V. resistant vinyl. The upper clear layer holds insulating air and focuses sunlight on the blue colored lower layer.
The blue layer absorbs about 50% of the sunlight and converts it to heat. The balance of the sunlight is allowed to pass through for deep water heating.

How Do Solar Sun Rings Work?

At night the contained air acts as an insulating blanket to retain heat gained during daylight. Solar Sun Rings are equipped with six magnets to improve clarity and decrease hardness of the water in your pool. The magnets are positioned to facilitate rafting. The strength of the magnets will permit single position removal but will easily separate to prevent entrapment in accidental falls.

Solar Sun Rings were designed to be compatible with automatic pool cleaners. In the event the suction hose catches on a ring, the ring will separate from the raft to allow the pool cleaner to continue. Neither water nor pool chemicals can evaporate through the Solar Sun Rings two layers of heavyweight vinyl. You will save water and chemicals about equal to the percentage of the surface covered. Once the water in your pool has reached adequate temperature, Solar Sun Rings may be turned over to conserve water by limiting evaporation without significantly heating the water.

How Many Solar Sun Rings Do I Need?
We recommend enough Solar Sun Rings be purchased to cover 70% to 80% of your pools surface, ignoring the small triangles between the rings.

Are Solar Sun Rings Compatible With My Pool?
Solar Sun Rings may be used on all chlorine or salt water system pools, whether in ground or above ground.

How Do I Clean My Solar Sun Rings?
After removal from the swimming pool Solar Sun Rings can be easily cleaned with a sponge and mild detergent solution.

Domestic Solar Water Heating – The Myth?

We at UKPoolstore are asked about the “Solar heating” options for Swimming Pools almost daily, and we have just finished installing a Roth solar heating system on our display pool at our Notcutt’s display site.

What we can say is that for Swimming Pools, there can be a sizable reduction in heating costs on an annual Pool if the Solar heating system is firstly correctly sized, and secondly the customer opts for the Electronic package, which allows the water to be controlled to and from the panels. In the fully automatic mode, Solar heating can work very well on a Domestic Pool, although the initial outlay may well be around the £1,500 mark, it is important to note that Pool heating costs on average for a 20 week season are around £500, giving you a pay-back time of around 3 years, compare that to Domestic water heating.

It is also interesting to note, In a extract from the Summer 2008 Journal of the water management society on the subject of Domestic Solar Water Heating, they comment: The average household pays about £1,000 a year for Gas & Electricity, most is used to heat the house; Hot water heating costing about £150 of the total. In the UK, solar water heating will reduce this figure by about a third, say £50. So with an initial outlay of about £5,000 the pay-back period would be 100 years. This takes no account of interest that would be lost if the money were invested, nor the interest on a loan if one were taken out. In addition there would be costs involved in servicing the system. So most households installing a solar water heating system would be around £200 a year WORSE off!

Gordon Brown has such an installation in his constituency home in Scotland; David Cameron has installed a wind turbine in his London home. This is called ‘gesture politics’, albeit expensive examples. :)

Weather Forcast for the week of 23rd June

The Weather Is Unsettled

The last week of June starts with a weather pattern more akin to early spring or autumn. An unusually deep low has tracked across the British Isles, bringing gales to the north of the British Isles and gusts in excess of 60mph. A period of heavy rain accompanied the low, but will have cleared all parts as the low tracks towards Scandinavia.

A transient ridge will offer a quieter spell of weather to southern Britain early in the period but further lows will maintain an unsettled look to the weather across northern Britain and Northern Ireland.

Scattered showers in Northern Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday may well be the extent of the rainfall for the day. Thereafter, rain will move into western areas of the British Isles on Tuesday to become confined to Scotland by Wednesday. Another area of rain will move into Scotland and Northern Ireland on Thursday before showers take over on the lead-in to the weekend.

Temperatures will peak in the low 20s Celsius in southern England, close to the seasonal average. Temperatures in the north will be closer to the mid-teens, also near par for late June.
