Company Background

Company Background

Our company started back in 1997, we initially carried out Domestic & Commercial installation & service contracts in London & the South East.

Our online store was launched back in 1999, and is constantly evolving. Since then we have seen business steadily grow and we now receive about 6,000,000 hits a month.

We also launched our forum in 2004 so that anyone with any question on Swimming Pools or Spa's can ask us or any other forum members for help and advice. This has been well recieved by our customers, and we encourage all our clients to join our forum, and in doing so share the knowledge which is so hard to sometimes come by!

New for 2007 was our 'Live help', a new service for our customers where our technical & sales staff are available to assist in product selection & support. This service enables our customers to communicate in real time with the UKPS team at no cost, which we believe to be a massive step forward in customer service.

Who are we?

As a family run business we feel we are large enough to handle your requirements either domestic or commercial, yet small enough to care, we have 2 show rooms where we offer the full services of a conventional Swimming Pool & Spa company, our Notcutt's Show centre in Maidstone is open 7 days a week, and offers on display 16 Spa's & 3 Swimming Pools for you to view, along with a fully stocked Equipment & Chemical shop, and our Head office is situated in Ayelsford, Kent open 7 days a week during the season, where our main warehouse is located, along with our internet sales support team.

We currently employ 18 staff, we have a team of engineers, 8 of which are either full members of the Institute of Swimming pool Engineers (I.S.P.E) having more than 7 years experience in the pool industry, or qualified Technical members of I.S.P.E. with 4 more members of staff sitting their Technical examination papers in spring 2008, as you can see, we are committed to providing a professional, technically competent service to our Domestic or Commercial clients.

With the huge growth of our internet business, more than 60 million hits in 2007, and an annual turnover of almost three million pounds, we have been able to provide you the end user with high quality goods at much greater value, we currently purchase equipment & supplies from all of the UK's main distributors of Swimming Pool equipment, offering you a vast choice, we have recently invested in new warehousing facilities allowing us to import from the far east a growing selection of equipment & spares, to offer you our customer even greater savings.

Should you wish us to contact us to comment on either our product range or any of the services we supply, please email us on info@ukpoolstore.co.uk. We will repsond to all emails as quickly as possible.

Thanks again for all your patronage.

GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT ON WATER RESTRICTIONS FOR SWIMMING POOLS AND HOT TUBS

You will have seen and heard media reports about the Government announcement to update the hosepipe ban regulations for England and Wales. They do not apply to Scotland or Northern Ireland.

This follows the consultation that took place earlier this year, to which the BSPF submitted comments to Defra on behalf of the pool and hot tub industry. Reports about this were circulated in our newsletter Pipeline during the summer.

Members are likely to be asked by customers what is the current position and how will it affect their pool or hot tub, and in particular their future intentions to purchase a new pool or hot tub.

The following points should help you to deal with these questions.

HOSEPIPE BANS

· The so-called hosepipe ban will be known as a discretionary or non-essential use ban

· There will be no immediate change in the law. Any change to the hosepipe ban rules will have to be presented and debated in Parliament as an amendment to the Water Industry Act. This will take scarce parliamentary time and in our opinion is unlikely to be passed before next summer, and probably later. References in the press to early next spring are purely speculative.

· There are no hosepipe bans in force at the moment. Until the law is changed, swimming pools and hot tubs continue to be exempt from the current hosepipe ban powers.

· The industry has argued for exemption from the proposed controls on the grounds that pools and hot tubs actually consume very little water once filled, and the major waste of water from the system is due to leakages from the water companies own distribution systems.

· Defra has not accepted these arguments and proposes that under the new rules domestic swimming pools (both indoor and outdoor), paddling pools, hot tubs and similar bathing facilities may not be filled, wholly or partially, once a ban is in place.

· BUT there is a major exception, retained from the existing legislation. Swimming pools designed to be used for medical treatment and the filling of pools in the course of construction are exempt from the ban. This means that new pool construction and commissioning can continue under a ban, although, once completed, they will be prevented from further topping up.

· This exemption however will not apply to hot tubs under the new rules.

· School swimming pools and pools for veterinary treatments will be exempt.

· The water companies are to be asked to agree a Code of Practice to ensure national guidelines for interpreting and implementing the new rules. We expect to be consulted as important stakeholders, and will seek to have included as many concessions as possible to make our members lives easier and safeguard their businesses. For example, this could include concessions to permit draining and refilling pools for repair and refurbishment.

DROUGHT ORDERS

· The coverage will be amended to include private, non-domestic swimming pools, such as health clubs or sports clubs which are not routinely open to the general public. Public pools will continue to be exempt.

· Drought Orders are rare: water company plans assume they will only be needed about once every 20 years

· The legislation dealing with this can be changed by the Secretary of State at any time.
